.the glenlivet 20yo - smws 2.84 - katherine hepburn in a vintage jaguar

We joined in a "whisky for a year" bottle share back in 2014, where we received an smws bottle(share) each month. Good times, I only never got around to taste them until now. A shame really...

53.3% abv, €100
single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: sweet, floral, violets, rum-like, a touch of molasses, dried fruits, plums, cranberries, warm cherries, pencil shavings, coca-cola, liquorice root, new leather
Palate: sweet, creamy, vanilla ice-cream, heavy, hot, spicy, cinnamon, star anise, fruity, wood, worn leather, tobacco, coffee, coca-cola, warm cherries, liquorice root
Finish: sweet, honey, floral, violets, long, dry, dried fruits, cranberries, blackcurrant, warm cherries
Mark: +++/++

Conclusion: heavily sherried is an understatement. Not as rough as the average PX matured whisky, so I am guessing this has been an ex-Oloroso cask. If you are into that, this is a go-to bottling.

More info: distilled on 11-05-1993, matured in a 1st fill ex-Sherry hogshead for 20 years, bottles into 77 bottles in 2014
