I am not overly fond of the Glenrothes whiskies, mostly because most of them tent to give me rather extravagant sulphur notes. Some of the independent bottlers use their own casks, which seem to use an other policy regarding casks, which makes them a lot friendlier on the (my) nose and palate.

From the MacPhail's Collection of Gordon & MacPhail's the Wood makes the Whisky programme, a nice, creamy and fruity Glenrothes.

In 1995, the distillery decided to lay down some whisky to eventually bottle as a single malt. This was the very first whisky they had put away for this purpose. Most of the distillery's product disappears into the blends of the Edrington Group, such as the Famous Grouse because of a complex construction of ownership of the distillery and the Glenrothes brand between the Edrington Group and bottler Berry Bross. & Rudd.

More the Glenrothes whisky. After my recent deflowering, this is another example of a whisky where a little patience and a drop of water can go a long way.

For some reason, I have never come to it to start making tasting-notes of the Glenrothes whiskies. I have had some, some I liked and some I liked a little bit less, but there must never have been one that stood out amongst the whisky-crowd to me to sit down with and have a good look into its soul. This is my start to try and change that, and what better start than their entry-level, non-age-statement, non-vintage whisky - the Select Reserve. Widely available for a reasonable price.
