.ancnoc - tushkar

Designed for the Swedish market, but somehow, we got hold of a bottle. The anCnoc distillery normally uses a non-peated malt for their whiskies, but they have been experimenting with various levels of peatyness and named the results after various peat-cutting tools.

46% abv, €50
single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: sweet, honey, vanilla, fresh malt, menthol, eucalyptus, liquorice root, fruit, a hint of green apples, indistinct citrus, smoke

Palate: creamy, sweet, honey, smoky, spicy, whole black peppercorns, fruit, green apples, citrus, sweet blood oranges

Finish: sweet, honey, medium, menthol, eucalyptus, liquorice, campfire smoke
Mark: +++++ 

Conclusion: Very enjoyable. Refreshing even, as this was crafted with a malt of only 15ppm opposed to some heavily 40+ ppm peated Islay whiskies we normally get to taste. A good example of a non-Islay peated whisky, that keeps some of the original flavours of the spirit normally flowing through the stills.
