.teeling - small batch blended - rum cask finished

Day 22 of the Drinks by the Dram WhiskyAdvent Calendar 2015. Only 2 more days to tick off before Christmas, we make a sidestep to the middle-Americas with this Nicaraguan rum-cask finished Irish whiskey.

46% abv, €35, blend, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: Cuba Libre, sour red apples, rums soaked raisins, milk chocolate, creamy, citrus, limes, olive oil, salt, sweet, brown sugar, anise seeds
Palate: smooth, vanilla, spicy, yellow pears, more Cuba Libre, rhubarb
Finish: medium long, slight bitter, marmalade

Mark: ++++/+

Conclusion: If you are into drinking Cuba Libres, this might just fit into your palate. Quite likely this is triggered by the use of ex-Flor de Cana Rum casks for the extra maturation and marriage of the Irish malt and grain whiskies for at least six months in the Teeling warehouses at the Irish Sea.

All Teeling whiskies are bottled at at least 46%, non-chill filtered and there is never any colourant added, because "we just think it makes a better whiskey" ...gotta love 'em for that.

Jack Teeling, founder of the Teeling Whiskey Co., comes from a family long associated with Irish whiskey from Walter Teeling in 1782 who setup a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in Dublin to John Teeling who founded Cooley in 1987. Jack continues on the Teeling’s entrepreneurial spirit and while initially starting out as an Independent bottler and aims to get back into the distilling game to ensure a constant supply of Irish whiskey.
