.ben nevis - 16yo - abbey whisky

After an on-and-off period of making tasting notes, my eyes fell on a set of samples we received from Abbey Whisky some time ago. Among these samples a Ben Nevis and, as it turns out, I somehow never made a note on this distillery before. About time to do so...

55% abv, €85, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: sweet, clover-honey, dried fruit, plums, herbs, laurel, lovage, a hint of marmite
Palate: sweet, dried fruit, plums, strong dark tea, tannins, spicy, cloves, nutmeg
Finish: sweet, medium long, dried fruits
Mark: +++++

Conclusion: If you are in the mood for a strong ex-Oloroso Sherried whisky, take a look at this bottle of Abbey's own the Rare Casks line. Good stuff, okay pricing too...

More info: Distilled in 1997, matured in an ex-Sherry hogshead, bottled in 2013 into 96 bottles.

thanks to Abbey whisky for supplying us with a sample of this beauty
