.bunnahabhain - 17yo - old particular #DL 10584

As part of the twitter tasting #RockOyster, we received a sample of Douglas Laing's Old Particular series, containing a Bunnahabhain from August 1997, that has matured in a refill hogshead until December 2014.

48.4% abv, €100, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: fruity, apples, pear, pomegranate, briny, the sea, a hint of malt
Palate: sweet, honey, vanilla, fruit, apples, pomegranate, spicy, white pepper
Finish: dried - slightly burned bacon mouthfeel, quite long, citrus, marmalade, a hint of bitter
Mark: +++++

Conclusion: I am a little bit disappointed. The expectations are a bit high if the bottle goes for such price, and to me it just does not meet that expectation. Nice whisky, but there are better Bunnahabhains to be found.

More info: the strength is determined by spirit profile. 48.8% abv has been chosen by Fred Laing, because he believes it is the perfect strength for this series of bottlings. Only 306 bottles were filled.
