Nose: medicinal, smoke, peat, sweet, nuts, young hazelnuts, salt, briny, mussels
Palate: sweet, fruit, soft caramel apples, spicy, black pepper, cinnamon, light smoke, floral, heather
Finish: spicy, firm, sweet, honey, medium long, slight smoke
Mark: +++/++

Conclusion: a good dram to have on a rainy evening in the fall. Just as we are having at the moment of tasting this. Although she is quite heavily peated with 30-40 ppm, she is a whole different dram from the peated malts from Islay. For the price, she would not be misplaced on your average whisky-shelf.

I would love to taste this when it would have matured in a good first-fill ex-Sherry cask. I will be on the look-out for an independent bottler with these specifications. Tips are - as always - very welcome.

No tasting notes, tasted at Maltstock 2013, during the Whisky Exchange's Masterclass

More info: really nice, this one. Proof that not all whisky needs to be at an old age to be drinkable. Many present gave this whisky a much higher age when first guessing. That said; we have tried another bottling of an eight year old Ledaig later in the weekend, of which we were not charmed at all.

.tobermory - 1995 - the exclusive malts

51,5% abv, €57, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural color

Nose: sweet, vanilla, fresh fruits, pear, floral, lavender, citrus, oranges, pineapples, rum-like, molasses, sugar cane
Palate: sweet, white pepper, sugar coated nuts, hazelnuts, hard caramel
Finish: strong, hazelnuts, sweet, caramel
Mark: ++++/+

Conclusion: Great dram. It can handle a good quantity of water, which lets it open up to the floral notes and brings out the nutty tones. I would like to see more of these kind of bottlings.

More info: distilled on 06/05/1995, bottled in 2011 from cask #682, 1 of 189 bottles. We have paired this during a whisky dinner with a beautiful starter dish with frogfish.

.tobermory - 15 - limited edition

46,3% abv, €90, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: a lot of iodine, salt and seaweed - fresh, stone-fruit, plums
Palate: sweet, thick, velvety soft yet spicy, liquorice, stone-fruit, prunes
Finish: hints of iodine again, warm, sweet, spicy, firm, prunes
Mark: ++/+++

Conclusion: Not my favourite choice. It is sweet and fruity, but the heavy iodine is a bit overly present in the nose. It is worth a retry though.
