.grant's - ale cask finish


Another whisky, basically from the same recipe as the Grant's Signature, now finished in ex-Ale casks for three months.

40% abv, under €20
blend

Nose: easy, gentle, nothing much going on at first. Then more fruit, apples, citrus tang, plums, malty, fresh, hoppy. Very ripe warm apples, creamy, vanilla
Palate: creamy again, sweet, honey, whipped cream, malty, Werther’s originals, apples
Finish: short, a touch of bitter (dare I say hoppy?), mocha, creamy stout, fruity
Mark: ++++/+ 

Conclusion: Really nice, and very affordable too!

.grant's - sherry cask finish

Following the recipe of the Grant's Signature maturation in ex-Bourbon and refill barrels and hogsheads, but finished for a couple of months in ex-Oloroso Sherry butts.

40% abv, under €20
blend

Nose: sweet, honey, fruity, dried fruit, stone fruit, plums, berries, raisins, mushrooms, caramel apples, pineapple
Palate: creamy, a hint of nuts, hazelnuts, sweet, a touch of apples, pineapples, ripe mango, pineapple syrup. honeycomb
Finish: short, sweet, spicy, cloves, cinnamon, sweet, honey, pineapple syrup
Mark: +++/++ 

Conclusion: nothing jaw dropping, balanced, easy going.

.grant's - signature

40% abv, under €20
blend

Nose: fresh, apples, unripe pears, malty, sour berries, gooseberries
Palate: sweet, sugar water, diluted rosewater, honey, stewed apples, caramelised apples, honeysuckle, spicy, a hint of cinnamon
Finish: medium long, sweet, all the sweet things. Creme caramel
Mark: ++/+++ 

Conclusion: Balance. Ridiculous balance. A bit sharp, but okay.

More info: A combination of ex-Bourbon and refill barrels, hogsheads and butts, without any finishing

.grant's - family reserve


40% abv, under €20
blend

Nose: sweet grains, honey, cherries, spicy marmalade, a whiff of sulphur, fruit, apple, pear & citrus, spicy, cloves, mint, waxy, creamy, banana peel
Palate: citrus, dark marmalade, lime peel - similar as nose, spicy, ginger, white pepper, creamy, fruity, very ripe fruit, peaches, ripe apricots, a hint of vanilla, creamy
Finish: short, creamy, sweet, ripe stone fruits, plums, plums, plums. Have I said plums? Plums too...
Mark: ++/+++ 

Conclusion: Okay. Not a high-flyer, but certainly bang for your buck. Leave it alone for a moment before drinking.

More info: a large part of this whisky is the grain from the company's Girvan distillery.
