.bruichladdich - scottish barley - the classic bruichladdich

50% abv, €55, single malt, non-chill filtered, natural colour

Nose: she has a sweet nose, with vanilla, honey and syrup. A lot of fruits, apples (toffee apples!) raisins, grapes and citrus, where oranges and grapefruit have the upper hand. Some herbal notes with mint, menthol and eucalyptus. Overall there are also some cereals, some hay and biscuits present, a whiff of varnish, and some floral, violets notes.
Palate: a spicy palate this one. Sweet vanilla and caramel, honey, butterscotch all over the place, with some spices like cinnamon and cocoa beans, citrus and fruits like pineapple and banana - especially the ones baked in rum.
Finish: quite short and refined. With some spicy cinnamon and white pepper.
Mark: ++++/+

Conclusion: Although she has a quite short finish, she has a lot to give. The many fruits that get involved here are classic unpeated Bruichladdich material - which I like - and makes this for me a dram I would be able to enjoy on a daily basis.

More info: She can use a little drop of water.
This was dram one during a twitter tasting with four surprise 20cl samples of the new 2013 core range from Bruichladdich, who also hold the Port Charlotte and Octomore brand names.

from the website: Made from 100% Scottish barley, trickle distilled, then matured for its entire life by the shores of Lochindaal in premium American oak, it is a testament to the quality our ingredients. This is authenticity. We believe barley matters.
